Tradition showcased in holiday event

"Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear
What was your favorite? Perhaps it was the Roy Rogers Show, Rin Tin Tin, Maverick, or Gunsmoke with Doc, Miss Kitty, Chester, and Marshal Matt Dillon. Don't we all sometimes long for the days when the good guys wore white hats, the bad guys were brought to justice, and the day ends with Dale Evans singing "Happy Trails."
Peabody has a rich western tradition from the early days when ranching and farming was an important aspect of the development of our community. Today we still experience a close connection to ranching, farming, and the land.
This year, we will celebrate our yesteryear as well as the present. We invite everyone to dress "western" and come downtown for a day and evening of festivities when Peabody Prairie Christmas presents a Western Wonderland Dec. 2.
The Christmas promotion committee has planned a slate of activities that include cowboy poets, book signings, children's games, crafts, cooking, demonstrations, live entertainment, and good food.
For more information, check out the brochure available at local merchants or on the web site at www.peabodyks.com.
This year there is a special project to raise funds for holiday banners for the downtown light poles. To kick off the fund-raiser, we will have a silent wreath auction.
Visit downtown merchants to bid on any of the dozen wraths which have been decorated by local talent. Donations also may be allocated for banners through the Main Street Association office.
