Town hall meeting planned

A town hall meeting to discuss underage drinking will be at 6 p.m. April 3 at Peabody-Burns High School.

Sponsored by USD 398 and CIS (Communities in Schools) of Marion County, the event is free and a meal will be provided.

Attendees will discuss issues affecting the youth and alcohol consumption.

Research indicates that children who begin drinking alcohol before the age of 15 are five times more likely to develop alcohol problems than those who start after the age of 21. Alcohol use among youth is strongly correlated with violence, risky sexual behavior, poor academic performance, and other harmful behaviors.

Parents, teachers, administrators, high school students, and community leaders are encouraged to attend. The event is free but registration is necessary.

Call (620) 983-2198 by March 28 to make a reservation. Child care will be provided.
