Tour was 'best ever'
"It was our best tour ever," said Marilyn Jones, tour guide for the Memorial Day "Springs of Marion County" tour. "We had 39 show up for the excursion."
The group left from the Brown Building at the high school and traveled east to Watchhorn Corner where they viewed the Watchhorn Spring. The tour ended at the Summervill Spring just outside Marion. A total of five springs, several off the beaten path, were on the tour.
Jones said the group was an interesting mix of people from Peabody, Marion, Wichita, Elbing, Hesston, and even a visitor to Peabody from Hastings, Minn.
"There was some discussion later about an expanded tour," she said. "There are enough natural springs in the county that we really could make a day of it — pack a lunch and go to some that are even in the northern part of the county."
Jones said there certainly was some interest in seeing other springs and that the historical society would consider sponsoring a more comprehensive county-wide tour in the future.
