Tomahawks win close contest over Peabody

Peabody-Burns Junior High boys' basketball team raised its record to 5-1 with a narrow victory Thursday against Bennington. The team has another home game this week against Hutch Trinity.

PBJH built a lead in the first quarter of five points. The Tomahawks continued to play strong in the second period. Jacob Simmonds and Aaron Topham paced the first half scoring with six points each. Sean Jones and Martin Hofkamp each added a basket, as PBJH led 16-11.

In the third period, Bennington came back and put 10 points on the board. PBJH managed seven, but the Tomahawk lead was cut to two, 23-21. Seth Alstrom had four points and Simmonds added three.

The Tomahawks added four early in the fourth to hold on to the lead. Bennington came back to take a late lead. But with 11 seconds on the clock, PBJH scored on a layup and took a two-point edge. The defense held off a late attempt by Bennington and claimed the victory, 29-27. Hofkamp, Alstrom, and Topham all had a basket in the fourth.

The Tomahawk reserves lost to Bennington 34-25. Storm Pickens paced the team with eight points.

Caleb Hilliard had four points, Joseph Lopez three, Sean Brunner, Jacob Gillett, Dylan Jones, Abe Eldridge, and Jordan Riggs all had two points each.
