Tomahawks undefeated going into tournament

With a league record of 11-0, the Peabody-Burns Tomahawks sat out the first round of the Heart of America League tournament.

In second-round play, the Tomahawks defeated Inman in a close contest, 43-35 at Pretty Prairie. The PBJH team advanced to the third round with a Monday night match-up with Goessel. With a win, the Tomahawks will advance to the finals at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The Tomahawks jumped out to an early lead, but the Inman squad battled back and stayed close on defense and offense. The Tomahawks led by four at the end of the first quarter, 10-6. Nathan Bishop paced the Tomahawks with four. Duane Unruh, Trevor Hamm, and Ryan Wiebe each added two.

Both teams had trouble on offense in the second quarter. The PBJH squad edged the Inman by five and the lead was six at the half, 19-13.

The offensive woes continued for the Tomahawks in the third quarter. Foul trouble and cold shooting made for a three-point game at the end of the period, 28-25.

In the fourth, the Tomahawks finally took control with better defensive pressure on the Inman crew. The Tomahawks were solid from the free-throw line, hitting nine of 11. The Tomahawks outscored Inman 15-10 in the quarter and took a second round win, 43-35.
