Tomahawks remain undefeated

The Peabody-Burns Tomahawks had a good night Monday against the Moundridge Wildcats. The varsity defeated the Cats, 37-32, and the junior varsity won in a close one, 37-35.

The varsity came out with great intensity in the first quarter and the Tomahawks had a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter with the score 14-11. The Wildcats played well, but the Tomahawks battled to stretch the lead at the half, 26-19.

A run by Moundridge in the third closed the gap some, but the Tomahawks ignited to lead 39-26 at the end of the third. The PBJH squad defeated the Wildcats, 47-32, extending their record to 5-0.

Scoring was as follows: Derrick Simmonds, 18; Trevor Hamm, 16; Ryan Wiebe, 6; Cole Welsh, 5; and Duane Unruh, 2

The junior varsity Tomahawks battled back and forth with Moundridge in the first, taking an early lead with good free throw shooting. The quarter ended with the Tomahawks up by two, 11-9.

The Tomahawks led by three at the half, 23-20.

The Tomahawks held off the Wildcats in the second half with continued good shooting from the free throw line and defeated them, 37-35.

The junior varsity squad is 3-2 on the season.

Nick Abramowich led the scoring with 8. He was followed by Jake Watts and Nathan Bishop, 7; Adam Benson, 6; Josh Ardrey, 3; Anthony Jones and Eric Buller, 2 each; and Jason Unruh and Levi Barnhardt, 1 each.
