Tomahawks pound Burrton

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns Tomahawks improved their record to 2-1 with a victory Thursday over Burrton.

A small squad was fielded by the Chargers, so the teams played eight-man for the evening. The PBJH squad handled the Chargers easily at home, winning 32-18.

The Tomahawks return to 11-man play next week with a home game against Canton-Galva.

The Tomahawk defense did a good job in the first quarter, holding Burrton scoreless. Trevor Hamm scored a touchdown on a 27-yard run to put the Tomahawks on the board, 6-0.

Hamm added another score in the second on a 37-yard run. A pass play from Derrick Simmonds to Eric Buller tacked on two extra and the score was 14-0. Eric Dutton blocked a punt in the period to give the Tomahawks the ball and set up a Simmonds pass to Duane Unruh for the next Tomahawk score, 20-0.

The second half opened with a scoring drive and Hamm scampered 58 yards to the end zone. Burrton scored three times in the second half, but the Tomahawks answered with one more score on a 30-yard run from Cole Welsh.
