Tomahawks lose opener to Sedgwick
Peabody-Burns Junior High Tomahawks opened the season Thursday at home. The Tomahawks lost to the Sedgwick Cardinals, 26-6. The team now prepares for another home match-up Thursday against Canton-Galva.
In the first half, four offensive drives from the Tomahawks ended scoreless. Defensively, the PBJH squad stopped the first two Cardinal drives. The first defensive stand ended with the Tomahawks forcing a Cardinal punt. The second drive was halted by a Jacob Simmonds interception.
The Cardinals put the first points of the contest on the board with a runback of an intercepted Tomahawk pass. The Cardinals scored again shortly before the half to put the score in favor of Sedgwick, 12-0.
Cardinals scored early in the second half to make the score 18-0. A safety and another touchdown were added to the Sedgwick total to put the lead at 26-0.
Exploiting good field position, the Tomahawks rallied late in the game. Elliott Spechtenhauser ran 30 yards to put six points on the board for the Tomahawks.
