Tomahawks get first win of season

The Peabody-Burns Junior High School Tomahawks came up with the first win of the season, 36-12, in a home eight-man match up against Little River.

The Tomahawk offense made its first appearance in the contest on a Brandon Pickens fumble recovery. Elliott Spechtenhauser took full advantage of the turnover and ran 35 yards for the touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. The Tomahawks took a 6-0 lead.

Two series later, another Little River fumble was recovered by Spechtenhauser. Once again, Spechtenhauser took the ball in for the score, covering 51 yards and the Tomahawks went up 12-0.

The Little River team came up with a score on a long pass play to cut the lead to six, 12-6.

Jacob Simmonds answered and took the Little River kick-off and sailed 75 yards for the end zone. Pickens tacked on the two-point conversion and the Tomahawks took a 20-6 lead at the half.

Spechtenhauser put in his third touchdown of the game early in the second half to put the team up 26-6. Brian Wingert hit Jake Middleton with a pass to earn the two-point conversion. The Tomahawks took a big lead, 28-6. The Little River squad came back to put in another score and the gap narrowed, 28-12.

Simmonds put up the next score for the Tomahawks on a 36-yard run. Wingert added the two and the lead was now 36-12.

Little River drove the field on the next series and put up one more score in the contest to make the final, 38-18. The Tomahawks are now 1-3 on the season.

The next outing for the Tomahawks is at Hutch Trinity.
