Tomahawks battle Goessel in close contest

Peabody-Burns Junior High School traveled Thursday to Goessel and came back with a 26-23 victory. At 7-3, the team played Monday against Ell-Saline and will play this weekend in the Heart of America League tournament.
The Tomahawks played a good first quarter against the Bluebirds. Five players contributed to the 9-6 lead at the end of the period. Aaron Topham had four points, Martin Hofkamp had two points, Seth Alstrom, Jacob Simmonds, and Brian O'Neal each added a free throw.
Goessel came back to take a 14-13 halftime lead. Hofkamp and Simmonds each had a basket in the second quarter.
The Tomahawk defense held Goessel to six points in the third quarter. PBJH added 11 points to take a 24-19 lead at the end of the quarter. Topham led the team with six points and Simmonds added five.
PBJH controlled the ball in the final quarter. Goessel scored just three points, and Alstrom added one basket for the three-point victory.

B-team
The Tomahawk junior varsity team lost Thursday to Goessel, 34-26.
Clint Jones and Caleb Hilliard paced the team with six points each.
Storm Pickens had four points and Sean Brunner added three points.
Abe Eldridge, Jordan Riggs, and Joseph Lopez each had one basket. Andrew Sheffler contributed a free throw.
