Tomahaks open season with win

Peabody-Burns Junior High School boys' basketball squad opened the season Monday with a road win, defeating the Remington Colts, 33-29.
The Tomahawks took an early lead, but the Colts came back to tie the score at 4-all. The PBJH squad went on a six-point run to put the team up 10-4 at the end of the first. Brian Wingert led the Tomahawks with six in the period. Aaron Topham and Kendall Wiebe added two each.
Scoring was even in the second with both squads adding nine before the half. Wiebe added four and Nick Hintz put in three. Wingert added two. The Tomahawks took a 19-13 lead at the half.
The Tomahawks took to the perimeter in the third, dumping in 10. Remington hit several free throws to keep the contest close. The PBJH squad was up nine at the end of three, 29-20.
The Colts outscored the PBJH team 9-4 in the fourth, but the defense turned up the Tomahawk score.
Second half scoring was led by Wingert with five. Wiebe added three. Elliott Spechtenhauser, Topham, and Jacob Simmons all put in two each.
Up next for the Tomahawks is a Monday match-up at home against Canton-Galva and a Thursday contest at Little River.

Tomahawk reserves opened their season with a 32-29 win against Remington.
Chris Dunfield and Cade Middleton led the team with eight each. Jordan Foth had six and Seth Alstrom put in four. Christopher Brooks, Bill Crane, and Isaac Burnett added two each.
