Time to buy buttons for Chingawassa Days festival

In a little more than a month, thousands of visitors will converge on Marion for the 12th annual Chingawassa Days June 6-7 at Central Park, downtown Marion.

Two new events this year are a hot dog eating contest and a performance from an acrobat troupe, both on Saturday.

The Fabulous Chinese Acrobats performed in 2002, and were a crowd favorite.

Buttons are on sale for $20 through May 25 when they will increase to $30. Buttons purchased in groups of 20 or more prior to May 25 may be purchased for $18 each.

Children 10 years of age and younger will be admitted free with a paid adult admission.

A $5 Saturday pass also will be available and will be good only for admission to the park during the day.

The button will provide access for all events including the main attraction Saturday night of Grand Funk Railroad.

Other events include a Friday night barbecue, and performances by Diamond W Wranglers (formerly Prairie Rose Wranglers) and the band Hopkins Switch.

Saturday events will include a classic car show, bed races, 5k run, tricycle races, pedal tractor pull, anvil shoot, horseshoe pitching tournament, Texas Hold'em match, bingo, motorcycle poker run, chain saw artists, dodge ball, and ice cream social.

Buttons are available at these Marion locations: Carlsons' Grocery, Central National Bank, G&J Video, Marion Chamber of Commerce, Marion Health Mart Pharmacy, Marion National Bank, and Tampa State Bank; and these Hillsboro locations: Central National Bank, Emprise Bank, Rod's Tires, and The Lumberyard.
