Three athletes sign to Tabor track, field
Kelli Kopper, Leah Kopper, and Jennifer Schmidt have signed letters of intent to participate in the Tabor College women's track and field program for the 2006-07 season, according to head coach Dave Kroeker.
Kelli Kopper is a Kansas class 3A state champion in the 400M and state runner-up in the 800M. The 5-2 senior also holds her high school's record in the 400M.
She also brings her academic strength to Tabor as a current member of the honor roll, A-Team, and National Honor Society. She also has been named academic all-state in cross country.
"Kelli will bring a tremendous amount of ability and competitiveness on the women's team," said Kroeker. "She can help us from the 100M to the 800M and in both relays. We are indeed fortunate to get such a strong competitor but also a young lady who is a strong Christian and student."
She is the daughter of Kent and Kim Kopper, Cimarron.
Leah Kopper, a long and triple jumper, holds her school record in the triple jump and is a three-time state qualifier, placing sixth in the triple jump in the 2005 state track meet.
"I'm really excited about Leah being a part of our women's track and field program," said Kroeker. "She is someone who will be a very positive asset to our campus and our team."
She is a member of the National Honor Society, Kansas Honors Program, and is a Kiwanis student of the month.
She is the daughter of Bryce and Ann Kopper, Garden City.
Schmidt runs the 100M, 200M, 400M, 4x100M relay, 4x400M relay, and performs the long jump. She holds school records in the 100M, 200M, and 4x800M relays. The 5-6 senior finished sixth in the 4x800M relay at state in 2005.
"Jennifer is an excellent sprinter and jumper and will immediately impact our women's team in a very positive way," said Kroeker. "She is a great competitor and can do a number of different events to help this team. Jennifer also is a wonderful person and will be a great addition on campus as well."
She is the daughter of Craig and Dena Schmidt, Hesston.
