Think of the kids

EDITOR'S NOTE: The Peabody Gazette-Bulletin's letters to the editor policy does not allow for the publication of "anonymous" letters. However, in this case, the letter remains unsigned to spare the family and child any additional disappointment.

To the Editor:

My family and I moved to Peabody about three years ago. We moved here from a town that was similar in size. For the most part, we have been welcomed into the community.

However, when it comes to having birthday parties for our children, we have been shunned.

I know that things happen, making it difficult or even impossible to attend a birthday party.

But a birthday party is not only about bringing a gift for the birthday child. It's about showing the child they are valued, that they have friends and that these friends want to help celebrate their birthday.

I wish parents would RSVP, especially if they need their child to be picked up for the party. My husband and I are more than willing to arrange the transportation.

There is nothing worse than having to explain to your child, half an hour into the party, that none of his friends will be coming.

The look of disappointment on their face is unforgettable and heartbreaking.

Let's remember what celebrating birthdays is all about — it's not the gifts.
