The press is coming to see our presses

Downtown Peabody will be a featured stop for a tour group Sunday. The American Journalism Historians Association will hold an annual convention in Wichita Oct. 11 to 14 for journalists from all over the nation. It is the 25th anniversary of the organization and for the first time the association will offer a post-convention tour of ". . . key sites in the history of newspapering" and ". . . places anyone interested in the history of American newspapers will love to visit."

That's us, folks.

The group of two dozen or so will eat lunch at the Morgan House and tour the Peabody Print Museum "located in the historic downtown district of Peabody, Kansas, . . . listed on the National Register of Historic Places." They will also tour the Flint Hills and travel to Emporia to visit the Emporia Gazette offices and the home of famed Emporia Gazette editor William Allen White.

We are in pretty good company, in my most humble opinion.

So, again, congratulations to Peabody Historical Society members for preserving the Morgan House and helping Bill Krause and Bill Jackson develop the print museum. And thanks also for the diligent efforts that continue to bring us recognition and appreciation for the preservation work downtown.
