Thanks Mr. G.!

To the Editor:

While vigorously studying for an exam, I took a break and decided to read something fun for a change. Naturally I picked up the "Kansas Music Review," Spring 2002 issue that I had just received in the mail! To keep up with the fast progressions in music education, I read this magazine that is published by the Kansas Music Educators Association which covers topics like the budget proposals by the State Board of Education, working with children with special needs, ways to promote music in our communities, etc. Paging through the magazine, I came across a story reprinted from the Peabody Gazette Bulletin. It was an article submitted to the paper by Peabody-Burns HS Music Director Steven Glover. The article talked about the musical events planned for MIOSM (Music In Our Schools Month, March) at USD #398.

A reader of the paper submitted this article to the "Kansas Music Review" and was recognized by the KMEA President Ron Chronister. The article titled "School music programs scheduled" was attached to a brief note stating: "The following article was submitted by Kathi Fischer as it appeared in the Peabody Gazette Bulletin. President Chronister placed it on the KMEA e-mail list. It is reprinted here following another successful MIOSM and may generate some ideas for individual teachers, schools, or communities to use in preparation for next year's activities."

As a former student and now an accompanist for Glover, I would like to recognize him for his hard work and dedication to the music department in the district. I think this article does a good job of honoring Glover for his attempt to get students and the community involved in music education. With a heavy load of directing both the bands and the choirs, he puts forth all of his effort to do what he can with the music in our district.

I just want to say thanks to Glover and I encourage the community to give him a pat on the back for his efforts and recognition in the magazine. Also help support the program by attending concerts and encouraging your children to participate in the music program. Thanks Mr. G!
