Thanks for the memories
Sometimes one of the hardest parts of living is losing the people we have valued for many years. In my 30-plus years as a resident of Peabody I have said my good-byes to many people I had at one time imagined would be around forever. They were people who were just "fixtures" in the community, people who were here long before I came, and whom I thought would be here long after I left.
For this third installment of the Main Street newsletter, we have featured such a friend of the Peabody community. Muriel Wolfersperger, a great crusader for this city, died in February. She was a homegrown gal, Peabody High School graduate, wife, mom and grandmother, former mayor, and a tireless community worker on several fronts.
Several months ago I asked a half dozen people to write up some memories of Muriel for a newsletter feature. It was enjoyable to read their memories of the many different sides of my friend, Muriel Wolfersperger. I especially appreciated that they included some of Muriel's "prickly" sides. Often times we tend to make people larger in death than they ever were in life. We soften up those parts that were real, but might have caused us discomfort or just down right irked us. Muriel had those sides too and they were certainly part of what made her successful in other areas.
My thanks to those who contributed their comments; I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did.
