Teams participate in fishing tournament
The first annual Craig White Fishing Tournament, sponsored by the Sons of The American Legion, was held Saturday at the Peabody Country Club.
Seventeen teams of two fished local ponds, Marion County Lake, and the Peabody Country Club.
Funds raised by entry fees and donations will be used to replenish the funds which are used throughout the year to help the needy in memory of White. Last year's funds were given to fire victims, cancer patients, and to help survivors with expenses related to a death.
After a day of fishing, participants enjoyed hamburgers grilled on the new barbecue grill, built this year at the country club in memory of White. The project was done by the Sons of the American Legion.
A raffle followed the cookout.
Participants who traveled the farthest to attend were from Michigan and Texas.
The team of Ty Fredrickson and Brian Mosiman collected the first place plaques for reeling in two catfish totaling 21 pounds 3.3 ounces. They also caught the largest catfish of the day weighing in at 10 pounds 8 ounces.
Chad Carr and Robert Turner caught the most catfish (11) to win the second place plaques for their total of 17 pounds 15.8 ounces.
Rod Conquest and Alice Morris came in third with 13 pounds 13.5 ounces.
Jerome Jacobs caught the smallest catfish, which weighed only 5.6 ounces.
