Teams forming for walleye tournament at Marion Reservoir
A walleye tournament will be held June 4 at Marion Reservoir.
A two-person team will compete for points and prizes as part of the Kansas Walleye Association series. Contestants do not have to be KWA members to fish or be eligible for prizes but both team members must be KWA members to receive points and qualify for the Cabela's championship.
Each team receives five points for entering tournaments plus 50 points for a first-place finish. Fifty-four points are awarded for second place, etc. If a walleye is caught and weighed in the tournament, the team will receive a minimum of 10 points.
The top five teams are eligible for cash awards at the end of the season. The top 10 teams will be eligible for the Cabela's National Walleye Championship in 2007.
There is an 80 percent pay-back of entry fees collected at each tournament. The pay-back is one place for each eight entries. There also is a large walleye cash prize at each tournament. Plaques will be awarded to the top three teams.
Entry fee is $60 for KWA members and $70 for non-members. A pre-meeting will be at 7 p.m. June 3 at Cottonwood Park, Marion Reservoir. The takeoff and weigh-in also will be at the park.
There will be a breakfast at 5 a.m. June 4 for all contestants and their families. The breakfast will be provided by Canada Bait and Tackle and Marion Lake Association.
The event is sponsored by Mid-Kansas Marine of Hutchinson. Co-sponsors are Canada Bait and Tackle, City Beverage, and Marion Lake Association. A walleye plaque for the winner is provided by Mid-Kansas Marine.
