Sylvester L. Harms
Former Hillsboro resident Sylvester L. Harms, 81, of Parsons, died Sept. 2, 2005, at Labette County Medical Center.
Born June 18, 1924, at Newton, he was the son of Leonard and Martha (Penner) Harms.
On Aug. 3, 1952, he married Alice Pankratz.
He taught grade school, was employed at Boeing Airplane Company, and was a building maintenance manager.
In April 2000, he and his wife moved to Hillsboro where they attended First Mennonite Church. They moved to Parsons in May.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Victor Harms; and two sisters, Velma Fast and Ruth Wiebe.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Parsons; two sons, Stephen Harms of Tucson, Ariz., and John Harms of Leawood; daughter, Sheila Lyle of Parsons; two brothers, Irvin Harms of Moundridge and Willard Harms of Peabody; sister, Lillian Leppke of Marion; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at First Mennonite Church, Hillsboro, with Pastor Duane Harms and Pastor Mark Koch officiating.
Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery, east of Newton.
A memorial fund has been established with the Mennonite Relief Fund.
