Student from Germany to stay with Unruh family

The Harlin and Doris Unruh family in Peabody is growing! Thanks to the assistance of the SHARE! local coordinators, Carol and Maynard Duerksen/Knepp. The Unruhs will host Mirko Dechow from Tangstedt, Germany, who will arrive in August and attend Peabody-Burns High School for the upcoming school year.

"Many people, especially today, are left feeling there is nothing we can do to help with peace in this world. But there is! Now, more than ever, people need to promote world peace and understanding, and I don't know of a better way, than to bring students from other countries into our communities. These teen-agers are young adults who are impressionable and eager to learn more about America first hand — they are tomorrow's leaders," stated Mari Karlsson, Central States Director for the SHARE! Program. Students become family members and participate actively with their host family.

The SHARE! Program has several exchange students needing host families for the upcoming school year. The students are 15 to 18 years old, speak English, have their own spending money, and medical insurance. The host family provides a home away from home.
