Student encourages community pride

By AMBER SPECHTENHAUSER

Peabody-Burns High School student

"I don't like Peabody." "Peabody is stupid." "There is nothing to do here." This is often the reaction you get when you ask a Peabody youth what their opinion is on where they live.

There are two ways to look at this. First of all, youth may feel this way because many may not know how much they actually have at their disposal.

Peabody happens to be a very fortunate town. We have a grocery store, a gas station, gift shops, a pharmacy, restaurants, a hardware store, a bowling alley, and so much more.

We also have an incredible school system where the faculty are not only great teachers, they care about each individual student.

Secondly, if you are a youth who is still a non-believer, then do something! Why complain about something that you can make better?

People can improve their community. It starts with ideas and initiative. You can make a difference.

Visit with the people at the nursing home.

Offer to help clean up the community.

Call the city office about other volunteer work you can do.

If you cannot find anything good about Peabody, then make something good. Have pride in where you live. Give back to the community. Be the person who thinks Peabody is great. You will never regret it.
