Strategic planning committee discusses issues

A meeting of the Strategic Planning committee was held June 19 at the Peabody City Council room. Consultant Bill Straight of Bucher, Willis and Ratliff welcomed committee members and reviewed the last meeting.

A discussion of identified issues, strength and weaknesses followed, along with opportunities and challenges.

The committee feels Peabody has many strengths such as excellent sport facilities, parks, history, location, unique houses, museum complex, churches, generosity, essential services, work ethic, safe community, and others.

Weaknesses defined were declining enrollment in the school system, small tax base, lack of 24-hour child care, lack of small industry, limited housing, highway services, lack of a community center/auditorium, dangerous intersection (Peabody Street and U.S.-50) and others.
