Strategic plan nearing completion
Public meeting to review plan scheduled for Thursday
Peabody City Council, Peabody Main Street Association, local businesses, and community organizations have been working together during the past year to develop a strategic plan.
The plan, made possible by a Kansas Department of Commerce Community Capacity Building program, has given community organizations an opportunity to work together in developing goals for Peabody's future.
The top four priorities which have been identified are a future streetscape plan and updating infrastructure, the need for an auditorium or community center, a variety in economic development, and housing issues.
Each priority has had groups research possibilities and desired outcomes. The information is being compiled into a plan that will serve as a roadmap for taking the proper steps to implement.
The firm, Bucher, Willis, and Ratliff, has been assisting the team in developing the plan. When finished, the plan will include drawings, costs, and plans for a streetscape project and an outline of steps needed to be taken to eventually have an auditorium and community activity center, as well as growth and development in economic development a housing issues.
Everyone is invited to attend a public meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the city building to review the strategic plan. After all changes, additions, and alterations are made, the plan will be submitted to the Kansas Department of Commerce for review.
The plan is designed to work as a guide and is not written in stone. It simply serves as a tool to help groups work together, sharing a unified vision in future projects and goals.
Many have committed a great deal of time and energy into creating this plan, and Peabody Main Street is appreciative.
