Storm chasing is topic of upcoming 60+ session years ago
Val Castor, Stillwater, Okla., will present "What It's Like To Be a Storm Chaser" Nov. 7 at the 60+ Learning in Retirement Program.
The session will begin at 10 a.m. in the Wohlgemuth Music Education Center located on the Tabor College campus.
Castor joined Oklahoma City's CBS affiliate KWTV in the spring of 1991, and was the first stormtracker hired by the station. He has chased storms for News 9 for the past 14 years.
He and his wife Amy have been featured on numerous television and radio productions both nationally and internationally, including the Discovery Channel, Learning Channel, History Channel, Weather Channel, National Geographic, CNN, CBS, BBC and others.
He owns and operates Castor Weather, Inc., a weather consulting service that provides forecasts and weather information to a variety of clients.
Born in Ardmore, Okla., and raised in Tulsa where he graduated from Nathan Hale High School, Castor holds a bachelor's degree in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma and a bachelor's degree in geography from Oklahoma State University.
Older adults are invited to attend. Enrollment is $15 per person a semester, $28 per couple or $4 a session. To encourage participation, first-time visitors will be admitted free of charge. Registration and discount lunch cards will be available at the door.
