State tournament will be in Peabody
Baseball enthusiasts will have a chance to watch a full weekend of baseball beginning Thursday when the Cottonwood Valley League hosts Cal Ripken state tournament play at Peabody City Park for teams of nine-year-olds.
In addition to tournament games, the weekend will include opening ceremonies, a baseball skills contest, and fireworks.
The baseball skills contest will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday. There is no charge for admission.
Games will begin at noon Friday, with new games starting every two hours.
Opening ceremonies will begin at 6:45 p.m. and the host team will play at 7:30, following the ceremony.
On Saturday, games will again begin at noon and fireworks will follow the 6:45 game.
Games will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, with the final game of the day beginning at 7:45.
Bracket play will begin at noon Monday.
Players on the Cottonwood Valley team are: Dylan Deines, Ramona; Kyle Riffel, Tampa; Barrett Smith, Lincolnville; Dokata Stimpson, Marion; Ryan Cahoone, Brett Engle, and Brad Tastove, Cottonwood Falls: Aaron Davis, Alec Keller, Austen Nelson, and Dexter Nelson, Strong City; and Brandon Entz and Clayton Philpott, Peabody.
The boys are coached by Kirk Engle and Eldon Smith.
