Spring is time for renewal
By MARY AVERY

Ahh, spring — the anticipation of spring brings a feeling of renewal and the timeless circle of the seasons. It seems to me a better time for resolutions and new beginnings than New Year's. The soul is ready after our long and cold winter for new plans, activities, and rededication. The energy to tackle new and old resolutions seems to be increase as the days lengthen.
So it is with our PMSA that we begin anew with fund-raising, event planning, and a new vision for our community and downtown. This year we will focus on our vision for our downtown.
To begin, this spring we will host a community meeting to appraise where we are and where we hope to be in five years. From the gathered information from our citizens, businesses owners, mayor, city council, and alumni we will develop a vision statement to guide our planning for the next five years.
So let's begin thinking where we would like to see our downtown go in our future and together we can make it happen one step at a time.
One of the first events of spring will be the Main Street Memorabilia Auction scheduled for March 10. The auction is a major fund-raiser for PMSA and funds many projects and events. The organization committee has received many wonderful donations but there is still room for more. So dig in your closet for memorabilia, bake a "to die for" dessert, or finish up a special and original art project to donate.
Make plans to attend for good food and a great time with your community neighbors. This event happens every two years so don't miss this one!
Spring also brings spring cleaning. Our closet still has some Christmas ornaments left from past years. So if you have not purchased yours or perhaps you will need a special gift this year, buy two at a special reduced price of $16. The price for one remains at $12 each so why not buy two for $16? This special price is available on all ornaments including our new 2007 ornament which will be arriving soon. These are available at the city office or through our online store Main Street Marketplace at www.peabodyks.com.
We would like to make room for our new Peabody travel mug which will feature our city building. Give us a call and help us make room for new mugs.
This spring let us all resolve to help create a vision for our community or volunteer for a committee or an event. It will be an exciting time and a lot fun.
