Spring Fling is April 6

The Florence Labor Day committee met Sunday afternoon at the ambulance building and finalized plans for the Spring Fling to be held April 6. Entertainment will start at 3 p.m. Serving of the traditional meal of brats and trimmings will begin at 4 p.m. at Veteran's Park. Cost of the meal will be a freewill offering.

There will be a display of Pinewood Derby and Soapbox Derby entries as well as regulations, rules, and entry forms for the event to be held at the Labor Day celebration.

Clint and Sarah Cope will be in charge of the Soapbox Derby and Duane McCarty will be in charge of the Pinewood Derby during the Saturday and Sunday afternoons of the three-day Labor Day event.

Those in attendance at the Spring Fling will be given the opportunity to vote for entries in the Labor Day button contest with the winning design to be used as the official button. This year's theme, "Florence, More Than a Whistlestop," centers around the railroad. Entry forms are available at area businesses in Florence and Marion or can be downloaded on the Florence web site, www.Florenceks.com under events.
