Spinden named state FFA officer

Leann Spinden, a member of Peabody-Burns FFA Chapter, has been elected to serve the Kansas FFA Association as state vice president for 2006-07. Spinden was installed as the association's vice president Friday during the final session of the 78th Kansas FFA Convention.

The state officer selection process includes several rounds of interviews during the week of convention in which the nominating committee assesses each candidate's knowledge of current agricultural and educational issues, FFA history, background, and leadership abilities. A field of 10 final candidates for the six officer positions is then presented to the convention delegates who elect their leaders for the coming year.

Spinden and her new officer team will spend the two weeks following convention training for their year of leadership and service to Kansas FFA members.

Throughout the year, she will present various leadership workshops to Kansas FFA members and address local FFA chapters and districts across the state. She also will represent the Kansas FFA Association on a national level throughout the year, including as a delegate in October to the 79th national FFA convention in Indianapolis, Ind.
