Spelling bee winners announced

Twenty-two students participated Friday in the Peabody-Burns Elementary School spelling bee.

Fourth grade participants were Caroline Beal, Cheyenn West, Christa Elliot, Nicholas Preheim, Rylie McDowell, and Tylor Baker.

Fifth grade participants were Cassey Tompkins, Cierra Foth, and Gunner Winter.

Students participating from sixth grade were Austin Savage, Brandee Burnett, Breta Alstrom, Chandra Rippe, Fred Winsor, Hunter Pickens, Jamie Henry, Jessica Sayers, McKenzie Ensminger, Rayna Barnes, Seth Topham, Zachary Preheim, and Zach Peterson.

In order to qualify for the Peabody-Burns Elementary School bee students had to receive a top score on a written test given to all fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students.

Winning the PBES bee was sixth grader, McKenzie Ensminger. Second place winner was sixth grader, Jamie Henry, and third place winner was Tylor Baker, a fourth grader.

Ensminger and Henry will participate in the Marion County spelling bee. Baker will serve as the alternate.

The Marion County Spelling Bee will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 7 at Goessel Jr./Sr. High School.
