Some things to consider

There are a couple of things worthy of comment this week so I am going to jump right in here and take advantage of that.

First, of course, is the amazing showing the community made a week ago at the benefit for the purchase of a thermal imaging camera. What began as a casual conversation between two employees of Sharon's Korner Kitchen grew into a community-wide effort to help the volunteers who are on stand-by 24/7 to protect us all. The money raised is near $15,000 with donations still trickling in. The extra funds will be used at the fire department's discretion, either to purchase camera accessories or other firefighting equipment. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Next, its time to be thinking about doing a little sprucing up to get ready for the 85th annual July Fourth celebration. We will have company galore here in our little burg. It would be nice to see the lawns mowed, the weeds pulled from the cracks in the sidewalks downtown, and the gutters swept in front of your house (yes, yours). And while were on the topic of the Fourth, its time to pony up again. If you are fresh out of donation money because you gave to the thermal imaging camera, contact the July Fourth Society and make a pledge. I bet they will take your check in August! The fireworks show is maintained by donations and button sales only. It needs our continued support.

Lastly, I'm dying to know whose spell check failed — the city's or the sign company's? Take a good look at the weight limit sign on the light pole in front of Peabody Market. Surely — SURELY — we aren't going to be stuck with the dad-blamed thing hanging on that pole forever. Welcome to Mayberry!
