Senior citizens board approves policy

Senior Citizens of Marion County, Inc., met Dec. 17 at Marion Senior Center.

Al Schmidt reported that Kansas Department of Transportation has mandated public transportation providers have written policies for their agency. Additional requirements were added by Marion County Department for Elderly staff and board members.

Marilyn Geis, president of Marion Senior Center, reported the carpet at the senior center needed to be cleaned. She received several bids but preferred the board choose a bid from Clean Supreme of Durham for $402 with $200 being paid from the elderly budget. An additional $26 will be spent to clean the office areas.

Noreen Weems, director of Marion County Department for Elderly, reported estimates she had received for replacing folding chairs in the centers. Navrat's Office Products of Emporia was the bid of choice at $27 per chair. The board approved the expenditure for 168 chairs, not to exceed $28 per chair if the chairs meet Weems' satisfaction. Marion County Commission will give final approval.
