School board plans inventory of district vehicles
School board members for USD 398 conducted a fairly short meeting Dec. 9 with six members present. Shawna Winter was appointed acting clerk for the meeting.
After a discussion of district transportation, Superintendent Tom Alstrom was instructed to make an inventory of school vehicles for the January meeting. Alstrom also was asked to seek bids on new and used 65-passenger buses as well as information and prices for suburbans, vans, and cars.
After review, the board voted to accept a proposal from Agler and Gaeddert for the district audit for the next three years. It was suggested that the board seek bids on future audits after the completion of the three-year contract.
PBHS senior Justin Mayfield and sponsor Jana Wedel presented information on the updated plans for a senior trip to San Antonio for the class of 2003. The board approved the trip 5-1 with Gary Jones casting the opposing vote.
The board approved the acceptance of a the low bid of $7,582.50 from Roofing Services Unlimited for the repair of the art room and weight room roof.
Board members, who attended the Kansas Association of School Boards convention, reviewed the sessions they attended. The district received awards for its newsletter and its brochure at the convention.
The board also:
— approved membership in the Kansas Education Coalition for 2003.
— approved an emergency substitute certificate for Steven Newby for the remainder of the 2002-03 school year.
— heard a report from Superintendent Tom Alstrom on his search for different heating control systems.
— heard a progress report on the construction of the new greenhouse.
— spent a brief period in executive session to discuss personnel. No action was taken on returning to open meeting.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 in the Central Office.
