Saturday Night in Peabody is theme of history walk
Many people in the "over 40" group will remember a highlight of every week was coming to town on Saturday night.
The Peabody Historical Society and some willing cast members will relive "Saturday Night in Peabody" on Oct. 17-18 in the society's annual history walk downtown.
Historical society board members have been busy researching and sharing memories of Peabody on Saturday nights before TV and transportation changed the world.
Pauline McPheeters especially remembers bringing cream and eggs to Tucker's Produce.
Trudy Watts will share how the availability of liquor was announced to area residents, and Ron Hedrick has tales of the pool hall.
Veteran actress Neysa Eberhard was actually a member of the unofficial "BBB" group. Come find out what those B's stood for and what the group did!
The historical society wants the street to look as authentic as possible. If you have a car from the '30s or '40s, bring it to town to park on the street. Car owners may call Carmen South at 620-983-2512 for more information.
Refreshments will be served at Peabody's "Carnegie Hall" after each tour, and guests will be able to rest their feet and listen to fine music provided by members of the Peabody Community Band.
Guided tours leave the Ann Potter Room at the Carnegie Library every 15 minutes from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Reservations are not necessary.
Soup and pie will be served at the Morgan House beginning at 5 p.m. both evenings, and your donations will go toward the best cause ever — preserving the history of your hometown.
