Saturday Night Downtown is this weekend
The Peabody Historical Society invites everyone to experience "Saturday Night in Peabody" during the annual moonlight walking tour Friday and Saturday.
Tours will begin in the basement of the Peabody Township Library and leave every 15 minutes between 6 and 8:30 p.m.
If you remember the days before TV and transportation changed the world, you also will remember that the highlight of each week was going to town Saturday night. You had to come early to get a parking space, the stores were open for business, and you could expect to see all your friends.
Guides will lead guests through Peabody's historic downtown where costumed actors will recreate scenes from the era when people dressed up to go to town, women wore hats, and you could get an ice cream cone for a nickel at the local soda fountain.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for children ages 4 to 12 and are available at the door.
Homemade soup and dessert will be available at the Morgan House, next to the library, beginning at 5 p.m. both evenings.
