Sarah Albright

Sarah (Mohn) Albright, 94, resident of Legacy Park, Peabody, died Dec. 14, 2006, at Newton Medical Center, Newton.

She was born Jan. 24, 1912, at Ramona, the daughter of Emmanual and Mary (Dienes) Mohn. She grew up with five sisters and three brothers who had lots of fun together.

She attended school at Ramona and in the fifth grade she won the spelling bee with first through eighth grades participating. From the age of 10 until she was 17, she worked for several farmers' wives, helping with a variety of chores and baking. She also stayed with and helped Meta Davidson, who boarded school teachers for the school year. During this time in her life, she attended a number of church services with the Davidsons and became a Christian.

On March 17, 1929, she was united in marriage with Godfrey Albright, the love of her life. They lived in the Ramona area until 1943, when they moved to Hillsboro. They attended the Evangelical United Brethren Church, and Sarah enjoyed the ladies aid gatherings. She had a volunteering spirit from early on and spent many days helping out at Salem Hospital working in the kitchen. In the summer months, she helped can fruits and vegetables that would feed the patients.

In 1949, Sarah and Godfrey moved to Newton. Godfrey started working for the Santa Fe Railroad in 1951, until his retirement in 1971.

Sarah's loving spirit led her to help others in numerous ways. She loved working as a nurse aide at Axtell Christian Hospital in Newton for almost 20 years. These were some of the happiest years of her life, according to her memories.

In 1971, Godfrey and Sarah moved to Peabody. They found many friends as they attended Peabody United Methodist Church. Quilting and visiting at the Peabody Senior Center was a joy for Sarah.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Godfrey Albright, who died June 21, 1985. She also was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, one infant daughter, a granddaughter, and one grandson.
