Sara Hoffman helps launch Statehouse Girl Scout troop

Sara Hoffman of Burns was one of several Girl Scouts throughout the state involved in a ceremony which launched an honorary Kansas Statehouse Girl Scout Troop.

Hoffman was in Topeka Tuesday along with Girl Scout executive leaders, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, and Senate Majority Leader Lana Oleen, launching a bi-partisan group that will work to focus attention on girls' issues among state policy-makers.

Current members of the Kansas Honorary Statehouse Girl Scout Troop also include members of Sebelius' cabinet and elected state officials including representatives and senators.

The day's activities included girls participating in a mock session of the Senate, meeting individually with their legislators, and being introduced on the Senate floor.

"The Girl Scout organization enjoys an excellent record of service to young women," said Gov. Sebelius.

Sebelius said the Statehouse would do all it could "to encourage girls and young women to build character and skills for success."

The honorary statehouse troop plans a number of activities including sponsoring special events to address key issue facing girls and young women and service projects of particular significance to Kansas girls and women.
