Santa Claus is coming to town

Perhaps, like me, you are still in shock at how quickly this autumn has past. It just doesn't seem right pulling out the sweaters with snowflakes on them just yet, even if it is getting chillier by the minute. However, the holiday season is rapidly approaching and Peabody Main Street promotion committee is busy preparing activities and shopping promotions to embrace it.
We want to invite you to join us Nov. 27 for this year's holiday celebration. New this year will be day-care throughout the afternoon for the little ones so Mom and Dad have time to explore all the goodies available downtown. Pictures with Santa will be taken before the parade from 1 to 3 p.m. at A Little Off the Top downtown. All youngsters who are in day-care will have the opportunity to get their pictures with Santa.
We also will kick off our annual shopping promotion as several cash prizes will be awarded to lucky shoppers.
This year's parade will be at 5 p.m. The theme is "Winter Wonderland." Any individual, family, business, school group, church, or organization is invited to participate in the parade. We hope to see several entries this year. The parade route will begin at the city building and go through the downtown district. More information is available at the city office.
Of course, when Peabody celebrates, it must have its fireworks! The Fourth Fest Society is kind enough to assist us again this November for another great fireworks show following the traditional lighting of downtown after the parade.
The Peabody Lighting Committee has a special surprise to add to the lighting this year. Look for a new lighted set display in Avery Memorial Park north of Peabody State Bank. We are excited about the new display and hope everyone will help us protect it.
Maintaining the downtown lights has been expensive over the years, with damage from birds, vandalism, and hail storms. If you would like to contribute to either the fireworks show and/or the downtown lights, we welcome and appreciate your support. Please drop off your contributions at the city building, 300 N Walnut. Checks may be made payable to Peabody Main Street, a 501(c)3 Nonprofit Organization. Please list where you want the contribution to go in the memo on the check.
We are looking forward to celebrating the holidays with friends and neighbors in downtown Peabody. If you would like to participate in this celebration by caroling, or if you, your business, or your organization would like to set up a booth downtown throughout the day, please contact me at (620) 983-2174 or email pmsa@peabody ks.com for more information.
