Ruby Hett

Ruby Louise (Just) Hett, 88, was born Jan. 14, 1914, on a farm near Balko, Okla.

She was the eighth of nine children born to Jacob and Elizabeth (Klassen) Just.

She attended schools in Oklahoma and Kansas. After completing the eighth grade she stayed at home to care for her mother, who was in poor health.

On Nov. 15, 1936, she married Ronald Hett at her family home near Aulne. To this union five children were born, Willard, Clifford, Edith Jane, Louise, and Alice.

She was a homemaker, dedicated to taking care of the children, providing for her husband, and caring for the home. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage until his death.

She became a member of the Aulne Methodist Church, and read and studied her Bible as part of her daily life. She also taught Sunday school for years.

In July 1995, she moved to Marion Manor, living there until she died March 15, 2002.

She is survived by her sons Willard of Marion and Clifford and his wife Evelyn of Peabody; daughters Edith (Janie) Meierhoff and her husband Thad, Louise Whiteman and her husband Gail of Marion, and Alice Nellans and her husband Martin of Peabody; grandchildren Alan and Susie Hett, Donald and Dawn Hett, Chris and Kathy Meierhoff, Jess and Jarvis Whiteman, Christian and Stacy Pedersen, all of Marion, Neil Hett and Carrie Nellans of Peabody, Justin Whiteman, Barbara and Gary Alleven of Wichita, Eileen Hett of Emporia, Denise and Todd Carter of El Dorado, Audra and Matt Jezewski of Austin, Texas, and Henrik Pedersen of Denmark; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Agnes Gaede, brothers Pete, Albert, Irvin, Jake, John, Wesley, and Clarence; daughter-in-law, Alvina Hett; grandsons Cecil Meierhoff and Calvin Hett.

A memorial fund has been established in her name at Aulne United Methodist Church.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Aulne United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Dyar officiating. Burial will follow at the Claney Cemetery.

Wanda Williams will be the organist and Eugene Just pianist. Rod Just, Betty Just, and Lyle Leppke will sing during the service.
