Robert Wyss

Robert Carl Wyss, 82, of Onaga, died Dec. 19, 2004.

Born Jan. 25, 1922, near Burns, he was the son of Walter and Lena (Mattheyer) Wyss.

He attended Brown school in Butler County. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was inducted Oct. 6, 1942. He served from 1942 to 1945, seeing action in northern France and was in Normandy on D-Day.

On Oct. 12, 1958, he married Hazel Fairbanks Corcoran in Onaga.

He was an active member of Onaga First Baptist Church. He served as deacon for more than 30 years.

He owned Bob's Service for more than 30 years. He was active in the community, serving on the draft board, as city justice of peace, 4-H volunteer, Little League coach, and umpire. He was a volunteer fireman for 25 years.

He was a life member of the Lions Club, serving as president for three terms. He was a charter member of Onaga VFW, and a life member of the American Legion and the 101st Airborne Division.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William and Jonnie; three sisters, Martha, Matilda, and Ida; and a grandson, John Ray Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel; five sons, Monty Wyss of Albuquerque, N.M., Gary Wyss of Everson, Wash., Jim Wyss of Monument, Colo., L.J. Corcoran of Santa Fe, Texas, and K.C. Corcoran of Linwood; three daughters, Linda Harris of Independence, Mo., Carla Hickman of New Braunfels, Texas, and Rita Hay of Herington; a brother, Richard Wyss of Florence; sister, Betty June Bowers of Wichita; sister-in-law, Martha Wyss of Burns; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Tessendorf-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Onaga.

Memorial funds have been established with Onaga First Baptist Church or Onaga Senior Center.
