Remembering another Dari Cr me treat
To the Editor:
I liked the article on the Dari Queen and information about Gladys Hart. Here is what I remember.
It opened around 1954 to 1956. The building was brought in partly pre-fab and via the franchise at the time.
Gladys and a Miss Anderson who lived at the Hart house like so many other single teachers, went 50-50 at the start.
Anderson was the vocal music teacher in the Peabody public schools and highly regarded. I don't remember her first name.
When she married and left Peabody, Gladys bought out her interest. Gladys offered part-time work to many high school girls.
Of course the appeal (of the Dari Creme) was the super smooth soft ice cream and those Snack Burgers that Esther Brooks mentioned. But my favorite was the orange slush, which was also new.
Gladys also offered piano lessons to many youngsters. In her own way, she contributed much to Peabody over an entire lifetime. She was a graduate of Bethany College.
