Redskins defeat Lady Warriors
Staff writer
The Lady Warriors hosted Little River Friday, but couldn't overcome a big first quarter deficit and were defeated 49-36.
The first quarter scoring opened with Gretchen Berns making a short jumper. A defensive assault by the Redsins, with a tough press and quick hands, took the Lady Warriors out of the first quarter, scoring 6-18.
The second quarter started with a little slower pace and the Lady Warriors hung tough with the Redskins. An assist from Marissa Phillips allowed an easy two for Andrea Jones to start the scoring. The Lady Warriors battled back to within five at the half, 23-28.
The third quarter saw both teams having limited success at the basket and although the Lady Warriors played a good quarter, the gap widened to 31-39.
The assault on the ball by the Redskins made the fourth quarter a tough one for the PBHS squad. The Lady Warriors were defeated, 36-49.
"We were nine of 16 from the free throw line. We had 10 or more missed lay-ups or put-backs; there's the game," said Coach Washington. "We played extremely hard. Earlier in the season, we weren't. It was noticeable. Now we need to develop our execution. We need to be consistent — we will play better. The girls appreciate the crowd support from everyone who has come out to watch."
