Rec Commission approves expenditures
The Peabody-Burns Recreation Commission approved spending for summer activities at its June meeting and heard a report from treasurer Patti Gaines on the budget for the coming year.
Members Shawna Winter, Greg Jones, and Steve Milstead were present along with director Russ Busenitz and the treasurer.
The fiscal year ended June 30. Gaines reviewed expenses and remaining balances. She suggested that a $42,000 budget could be funded with the two mills the PBRC is allowed to assess. After discussion of encumbrances from the 2001-2002 budget and the amounts to budget for 2002-2003, the board approved the publication of the budget in the amount of $42,000.
Lynn Berns, representing the summer swim team, gave the board an update on the season the youngsters are having. The commission voted to approve an expenditure of $839 to Homestead Printing for the swim team T-shirts and $1,000 to the city of Peabody to be used for swim team equipment at the city pool.
Peabody Mayor Kevin Ensminger presented the plan to paint the steel light poles at the ball field in the city park. The recreation commission is part of a three-way maintenance agreement for upkeep on the light poles. A bid of $4,252 from Cunningham Sandblasting and Painting of Joplin, Mo., was discussed and the commission agreed to pay its third of the cost of the repairs.
The board voted to accept the resignation of Sheryl Simmonds as board member and approve the appointment of Beth Peter to fill the position.
