Rec commission approves budget
At a recent recreation commission budget hearing, treasurer Patti Gaines reported that the annual audit went well. Greg Jones moved the PBRC adopt a budget of $42,000 for the 2002-03 fiscal year. The motion carried 4-0.
Members present for the budget meeting were Shawna Winter, vice president, Greg Jones, Steve Milstead, and Beth Peter, members; Russ Busenitz, director, and Patti Gaines, treasurer.
Following a brief discussion, a unanimous vote was cast to approve Russell Atwater and Shawna Winter to continue in their positions as president and vice president, respectively, of the Peabody-Burns Recreation Commission.
Minutes, payroll, the treasurer's report, and bills totaling $327.77 all were approved.
Jones reported that city clerk Cindy Harms had expressed the city's concern about the PBRC's use of water at the city park. Since the city is buying water from Hillsboro it is charged for the water used by the rec commission. Busenitz agreed to contact the city and work out a payment arrangement for water usage.
Jones also noted that he had received positive reports from patrons concerning the children's games at the city park for the Fourth of July celebration.
It was mentioned that keeping the activities in one general location was helpful. Busenitz agreed that keeping the games in the same area was more convenient for him and his staff.
Jones suggested the rec board issue a special thank you to Patti Gaines for her hard work as treasurer. The board voted 4-0 to purchase a gift certificate for Gaines.
Winter reported that she would have access to the digital camera at Peabody Elementary School once school starts. She intends to begin taking pictures for the strategic plan at that time.
Jones presented an estimate from Dutton Tree and Handyman Service of Peabody for the construction of a 3'x5' concrete pad at the east ball field in Peabody.
Steve Milstead reported that Ron Koehn in Burns indicated he would be able to construct a pad at the ball field in Burns. It was agreed that Milstead should ask Koehn for one estimate for constructing the pad in Burns and another estimate for constructing both concrete pads (one in Burns, and one in Peabody.)
The board also decided to purchase new locks for the boxes as well as the storage building at the Peabody City Park and have all the locks keyed alike.
