Rash of vandalism keeps Peabody law enforcement busy
Break-ins, attempted burglaries, and vandalism kept Peabody police officers busy during the past week, according to Peabody Police Chief Bruce Burke.
"There was quite a rash of incidents in a few days' time," said Burke.
Officers took reports after daybreak Saturday of vandalism at 209 N. Elm and on the Mid-Kansas Cooperative west elevator on West 2nd Street. Words were spray-painted at each location.
"There are no suspects at this time, " said Burke, "and the cases are under investigation."
On May 21, Burke took a report of criminal damage to property at the press box at the baseball diamond at city park. A person or persons damaged the door to the press box trying to get in. They did not gain entry. This case also is o being investigated.
On the morning of May 23 yet another case of criminal damage to property was reported to Peabody police officers.
An attempted burglary at Peabody-Burns Elementary School was reported. A window at the school was broken out, but no one was able to enter the building.
Another report of damage and attempted entry was made for the storage building on the northeast corner of the playground area at PBES. The building belongs to Peabody-Burns Recreation Commission.
Also on the 23rd, hub caps were stolen from a residence at 509 N. Locust.
These three cases are under investigation.
Police arrested one person Thursday in Peabody for driving on a suspended license. That case will come before the city judge.
