Raid by Peabody police solves rash of recent thefts

More than a dozen recent burglaries were solved by Peabody police early the morning of June 12 when they executed a search warrant for the property at 207 N. Plum.

Late the evening before, a report was made to officers of shots fired at 209 N. Plum.

Based on facts gathered during the investigation of that incident and other information officers were able to gather, police entered the residence at 3:15 a.m. with a search warrant.

Three individuals, one adult and two juveniles, were arrested. None of those arrested have been named because two are juveniles and the adult has not yet been formally charged.

Charges pending against the adult are: possession of stolen property, aiding in the commission of a felony, and two counts of contributing to a child's misconduct.

One of the juveniles has been charged with possession of stolen property.

The second juvenile has been charged with possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary, and theft.

"At present the investigation and the execution of the search warrant will aid our officers in confirmation of seven burglaries and thefts to motor vehicles and two burglaries and thefts to residences," said Peabody police chief Bruce Burke. "Property in these cases will be retrieved."

Burke also indicated that as many as five additional burglaries to motor vehicles also might be cleared up with these arrests.

"I would still encourage people in Peabody to lock their houses and cars," he said. "We feel confident the arrest of these individuals will end some of the problems with burglary and theft. But people shouldn't assume their belongings are safe.

"We continue to urge people to lock up."

Police interrupted an attempted automobile burglary this past weekend. Charges in this case are pending action by the county attorney.

On the evening of July 13, police officers executed a pickup and detain order on a juvenile. The order was issued by the state of Kansas.

Officers took two reports during the past week of burglary and theft from residences in the city. The cases are under investigation.

A report was made of a confrontation incident at the swimming pool. The case is under investigation.
