Quentin Westerhaus

Quentin "Duke" Westerhaus, 83, died Sept. 20, 2003.

Born Oct. 31, 1919, at Burns, he was the son of Leo Sr. and Ivah (Bridenstein) Westerhaus.

He attended Burns High School with the class of 1939 and later received a certificate of engineering from Wichita State University.

On Jan. 2, 1939, he married Hulda Gfeller. They spent their married life in Wichita.

He went to work at Boeing in 1950 and was engineering labs manager when he retired in 1979.

He enjoyed auto racing and took great pride in building race cars. He recently was inducted into the High Banks Hall of Fame at Belleville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leo Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Hulda; son and daughter-in-law, Ronney and B.J. Westerhaus of Wichita; daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Tom Jones of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; sister and brother-in-law, Bettie and Jim Nebergall of Lawrence; brother-in-law, Ted Gfeller of Wichita; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were held Sept. 24 at Downing and Lahey Chapel, Wichita. Burial was in White Chapel Gardens.

Memorials have been established with Southern Care Hospice and High Banks Hall of Fame Museum.
