Public is notified of second feedlot expansion south of Peabody

Notice was received by the City of Peabody Tuesday that Kansas Department of Health and Environment is considering the approval of a permit for Jeff Busenitz of rural Peabody for a "confined animal feeding operation."

The application is for a new permit to expand Busenitz's operation to 999 head of cattle.

Jeff Busenitz has his cattle feeding operation in a section adjacent to the section in which his father, Clarence Busenitz currently operates a feedlot and also has applied for permission to expand his cattle count to 999 head.

The public has until April 15 to send written comments to KDHE if they object to the expansion. Sample letters will be available at the city building as will the address and case number for the second Busenitz application.
