Proud of Peabody-Burns Warriors

To the Editor:

Football season has just ended for the Warriors. They had a very successful season. They can hold their heads up high for they accomplished more than was ever expected of them. They were not expected to get as far as they did from what I kept hearing.

I attended every game our Warriors played and watched as our young men gained victory after victory.

I was impressed with the sportsman-like conduct our fine young men display both on and off the field. I watched as other teams took some cheap shots, or walked away when our guys were down. Our guys did not respond to the cheap shots, they always helped the other team up off the ground.

Coach Young and his staff have done a fine job teaching our young men good sportsman-like conduct and football. Warriors looked and acted like a team. They were respectful and polite, even when others were not. One game sticks out about the other side's manners. One town showed their contempt and disrespect when we arrived in town for the game. They would look at us and sneer, call us names, or show their I.Q. by holding up a middle finger. Our guys responded by beating them on their own field, not by sneering at them or showing the middle finger.

Parents would show up to the games and enjoy watching their sons play. Some were more vocal than others, but it was always for support of the Warriors. Nothing derogatory toward the other team, or the officials.

I was impressed with the number of Warrior fans who would show up at the local games. I was even more impressed at the numbers who showed up at the away games. It is good to see competition as it is meant to be. Small town America is alive and well and playing football as it is meant to be played.

The last game of the season was a challenge, both physically and mentally. They faced the toughest team in the state. Our young men fought hard to stave off the loss. They finished the season as regional runner-up.

Be proud Warriors, be very proud. YOU ARE THE PEABODY-BURNS WARRIORS.
