Progressive Mothers Club to sponsor bloodmobile
The American Red Cross bloodmobile will be in Peabody from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Peabody United Methodist Church.
Sponsored once again by Progressive Mothers Club, the ARC blood drive is currently trying to make up for a shortfall of blood donations in the area.
The Central Plains Region covers Kansas and northern Oklahoma and has been struggling for several months to keep up with the demand for blood. The region needs to collect nearly 500 units of blood each weekday to meet the ongoing and emergency needs of patients in the hospitals it serves.
To donate blood a donor should be in good general health, weigh more than 110 pounds, and be at least 17 years old. In Kansas 16-year-olds may donate with a completed parental consent form, available online at www.bloodgiveslife.org.
Lynn Berns, chairman for the blood drive, encourages people to make appointments for the sake of convenience.
"While walk-in donors are welcome, it is easy to make an appointment that will fit into any busy schedule," she said. "Just call 1-800-GIVE LIFE and select a time that fits with whatever else you are doing that day."
Volunteers will man a canteen to serve donors a snack of sloppy joes, chips, cake, and a drink after they donate blood.
